Damara Lambs (5-7 month old)

Due to the strong herding instinct of the Damara Sheep we handle our flock without dogs -  reducing unnecessary stress to the animals.

However widespread the sheep are in the  paddock, as soon as the farm-ute  or the motorbike enters the paddock , the sheep will assemble very quickly to form a mob which then can be guided in any direction required.

Mothers will not leave their young ones behind !

Damara sheep are highly resistant to the major diseases known to affect other breeds mainly used in Australia.

Since we breed these animals we have not used any drenching ( worm control) , jetting (lice control)  or any other veterinary drug.

Because our sheep are bred and raised  free of any chemicals and drugs and without the direct use of  any "off - farm" inputs we believe that this is the closest we can be to organic meat production without having to apply costly certification procedures and having to follow regulations which are not suitable for our other farming enterprise.

Tail docking ( the removal of the animals tails) or mulesing ( the surgical removal of skin around the breech) are unnecessary  and therefore ethically unacceptable procedures in the management of Damara sheep.

Castration in male lambs is performed with rubber rings on very young animals causing practically no pain to the animal.
